About MACV housing

The Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans owns and operates roughly 230 rental homes across Minnesota. Every unit is dedicated to veteran households — most of whom are coming from homelessness or have a history of housing instability.

Who qualifies

MACV housing is for veteran households in Minnesota. Discharge status, income, and rental history are reviewed case by case — a difficult history does not automatically disqualify you. If you are unsure, apply anyway and staff will work through it with you.

How to apply

  • With an MACV referral code. If MACV staff have given you a referral code, you can apply online and your application links straight to your record.
  • New to MACV? Send an inquiry. Find a home you are interested in and send an inquiry instead of an application. Staff will follow up for a short intake and provide a referral code if MACV housing is a fit. The eligibility screening is a good place to start.
  • Paper applications. If you filled out a paper application, MACV staff enter it into the portal for you. Case managers and partner providers no longer submit applications directly, because the form includes background check authorization the veteran must sign.

What happens next

Applications land with MACV housing staff, who move them through review, eligibility verification, and unit matching. Once accepted, the application becomes a tenancy record and MACV coordinates your move-in.
